Mar George Alencherry's Video Message and Circular Holy Week Liturgy Instructions

The Major Arch Bishop and Head of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Cardinal Mar George Alencherry published a circular and a video message yesterday with detailed instructions and official directives on how the Liturgical Practices should be performed in the Syro- Malabar Catholic Church during the forthcoming Holy Week (including the Palm Sunday (Hosanna Njayar), Maundy Thursday (Pessaha Vyazham), Good Friday (Dukkha Velly) and Easter (Uyirppu Thirunnal).

In the history of the Church this is the first time the faithful throughout the world are banned from gathering together or going to the Churches or participating in the Holy Sacramental Services. This is in connection with the fast escalating coronavirus pandemic. Even though the Church consisting of fewer number of disciples during the persecution by cruel rulers in the past were forbidden from practising spirituality, it was not prohibited by the Religious superiors, but encouraged!

The Holy Week or the Passion Week this year 2020 commences with the Palm (Hosanna) Sunday on April 5th. Even though the faithful are asked to remain indoors owing to the lockdown period declared by the governments, they have really a very wide choice of spiritual activities they can participate online being in their own houses! Though this coronavirus time is physically, economically and emotionally hard, this is a golden period for all the Christians and others who want to make a self examination of their lives and mend and prepare their souls for the 'end of age' which is very sure and imminent...!

Please watch the video message given by our Cardinal Mar Alencherry and follow the instructions given therein:

Please read the above given instructions in detail through a circular. Please check it follow it scrupulously. God Bless:
