The role of parents in the spiritual and emotional life of children is deeply emphasized in Catholic teachings. Respecting and honoring one's parents is not just a moral obligation but also a spiritual safeguard. This blog explores the dangers of parental curses, a serious matter in Catholic tradition, as noted by Saints and exorcists and rooted in Biblical wisdom.  

The Story of St Padre Pio and a Possessed Child:

A mother once brought her possessed child to Saint Padre Pio. The child was creating a commotion in the Church, howling in distress. Padre Pio helped exorcise the demon from the child and then warned the mother: "Tell your husband not to curse, or the demon will return." 

This account highlights the power of parental words and their potential spiritual impact. Children are urged to treat their parents with respect and compassion, even when they falter, as the bonds between parents and children carry profound consequences.

The Wisdom of Honoring Parents: 

Catholic teaching emphasizes the blessings of respecting parents. As stated in Sirach 3:1-16, honoring one’s father and mother atones for sins, brings joy in life, and ensures blessings. "A father’s blessing strengthens one’s life, while a mother’s curse can uproot it".  

Even when a parent’s mind falters with age, children are called to be considerate and patient. Kindness toward one’s parents is a spiritual act that God rewards with forgiveness and grace.

The only Holy Remedy: Prayer Against Parental Curses:

If one believes they have been cursed by their parents, they can renounce these curses through prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. However, a good confession and reception of the Holy Eucharist (kneeling and on the tongue) are mandatory for greater efficacy.

(To be prayed sincerely before the Blessed Sacrament) 

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 

I renounce any curse that has been spoken over me by my parents, whether knowingly or unknowingly. I renounce any negative words, intentions, or actions that have been directed towards me. I ask for God's forgiveness and mercy for any way in which I may have contributed to these curses through my own actions or attitudes.  

Mama Mary, intercede for me with your motherly love and protection. May the Most Precious Blood of Lord Jesus Christ wash away any curse or negativity that has been spoken against me, causing oppression in my life, relationships, property, and family.  

Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I place my trust in Your Divine Mercy and ask for Your healing and protection.  

St. Michael the Archangel, defend me in battle. Be my safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May you, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.  

Guardian Angel, watch over me and guide me. Help me to renounce these curses with sincerity and walk in the light of God's love and truth.  

I make this renunciation and prayer in the presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament, asking for God's Grace and protection in my life. I also resolve to make a general confession of all my sins, seeking God's forgiveness and healing in all areas of my life.

Monsignor Joseph Panjikaran racing for Sainthood

Servant of God Monsignor Dr. Joseph C Panjikaran, was a great visionary in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, who dedicated his life to the spiritual, educational, and social upliftment of people in Kerala. He was born on September 10, 1888, in the village of Uzhuva near Cherthala,  in a wealthy family, as the third son of Chacko and Mariam Panjikaran. After completing his school education locally, he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli (in the erstwhile Madras State). Yet Joseph, with a deep calling to serve souls, chose to forgo promising career opportunities to become a Catholic Priest. He joined the Seminary and was ordained in 1912, achieving the remarkable milestone of becoming the first postgraduate Priest in the Syro-Malabar Church. His academic achievements established him as a leader committed to both faith and learning.

Joseph's parents were also very spiritual. Though his father was rich, he was a noble person. A letter written to Fr. Joseph by his father shows the depth of his virtue!

Although his Bishop initially appointed him to a teaching position, Fr Panjikaran preferred to work directly with the poor and less fortunate. To reach the marginalized, he founded Sathyavedashramam (സത്യവേദാശ്രമം), along with a reading room, sports club, and an Ayurveda clinic.

Fr. Joseph Panjikaran was not only a prominent figure in the Kerala Syrian Catholic community but also a renowned social worker, devoted to uplifting the underprivileged across religious lines. To support the livelihoods of economically disadvantaged Ezhava and Dalit communities, he initiated various enterprises, including boat transport services, a coir factory, and soap-making units.

To share religious and social values, he founded the popular Catholic Malayalam weekly Sathyadeepam (സത്യദീപം) and also served as the managing editor of the only Catholic daily of that time, The Malabar Mail.

Monsignor Panjikaran’s compassion for the poor led him to establish the Sisters of the Destitute (SD) in 1927, a congregation devoted to serving the marginalized, sick, and destitute. In addition, he founded Dharmagiri (Charity Mount) Hospital in Kothamangalam—the first hospital in Kerala under the Syro-Malabar Church. Dharmagiri extended healthcare to underserved communities and embodied his vision for compassionate care. He also founded the "Medical Sisters of St. Joseph (MSJ)", with a mission to "heal the body and win the soul."

From November 1st to 4th, 2024, the 75th death anniversary of Monsignor Panjikaran was commemorated in a grant manner by the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph (MSJ) and the Catholic Eparchy of Kothamangalam. This celebration highlighted his legacy of service and his lasting impact on faith-based healthcare in Kerala. A Holy High Mass was celebrated by the Diocesan Bishop and many Priests, and after the Mass, numerous faithful who had received miraculous favors through the intercession of Monsignor Panjikaran shared their testimonies.

As Servant of God Monsignor Joseph Panjikaran’s life of heroic virtue is reviewed in the process of beatification in the Universal Catholic Church, he remains an inspiring figure whose legacy resonates throughout the Syro-Malabar Church and beyond. Many devotees anticipate and pray that he will, God-willing, be beatified and then ultimately canonized as St. Joseph Panjikaran very quickly.

Latest Eucharistic Miracle in Ernakulam: Holy Host Becomes Flesh and Blood Three Times for Agna in Madavana Church.

In St Sebastian's Roman Catholic Church at Madavana in Ernakulam, under the Varappuzha Diocese, a series of miraculous events has left the community in awe. On three consecutive Sundays, a remarkable phenomenon occurred during Holy Mass celebrated by Rev Fr Sebastian Vattapparambil, with the Holy Host reportedly transforming into what appeared to be Flesh and Blood.

The first incident took place on July 21, when Agna, a tenth-grade student hailing from an ordinary family, received the Holy Communion during Sunday Mass. As the Holy Host was placed in her hand by the Parish Priest, it began to bleed. Shocked, Agna's Sunday school teacher and other witnesses quickly informed the Priest. The Priest immediately collected the bleeding Host carefully, placing it in the tabernacle, and promptly informed the Bishop of the incident.

The following day, Senior Priests from the Bishop's house arrived and took the Holy Host, which had now appeared to transform into Flesh and Blood. The parish community was left in a state of reverent wonder, uncertain of what to make of the extraordinary event. But on the instructions of the Priest and authorities, they decided to keep it secret until the authenticity of the Miracle is proven.

A week later, on July 28, the miracle repeated itself. This time when Agna placed the Holy Host from her hand to her tongue during Mass. Once again, the Host appeared to bleed, and she showed it to others who informed the Priest. When this happened there were nearly 400 devotees in the Church. The priest, adhering to the procedure from the previous week, secured the Host in the tabernacle, and authorities once again arrived to take it away for further examination.

"On Thursday, August 1st, Agna, her Head Teacher, and a few others were praying the Rosary in the school chapel as it was a holiday. After praying four mysteries, they stepped out to have some food. However, when Agna and the teacher felt goosebumps on their arms, they returned to the chapel and witnessed a miraculous event—the Marian statue in the chapel was shedding blood. This phenomenon, witnessed by many, lasted for five days before disappearing yesterday."

On August 4, the Eucharistic miracle occurred for the third time. This time the Holy Flesh appeared in the form of a Heart. The faithful conducted marathon Eucharistic Adoration in the Church until the Diocesan Archbishop Rev Dr Joseph Kalathiparambil came and witnessed the Miraculous Host himself. With the repeated nature of the event, the Church decided to reveal the incident to the public, inviting the media and local community to witness what many are calling a divine sign.

The Holy Flesh and Blood were exposed before the public, sparking a deep sense of faith and devotion among the faithful. As the news spreads, the diocese and religious and scientific scholars are likely to begin a careful investigation, adhering to the Church's protocol for such occurrences.

This event has brought a renewed sense of spiritual reflection to the community, reminding many of the mystery and sanctity of the Eucharist. As the Church continues to discern the meaning and authenticity of this phenomenon, believers are drawn to the deeper implications of this miraculous sign in their spiritual journey.

തീരാ രോഗങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള ഔഷധവും, സാമ്പത്തിക ക്ലേശത്തിൽ അപ്രതീക്ഷിത ധനവും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പക്കൽ ഉണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ യാത്രികരുടെ കൂട്ടുകാരനായും, ദുരാത്മാക്കളിൽനിന്നു വിടുതലും നല്കാൻ ഈ മാലാഖ ഇപ്പോഴും സന്നദ്ധനാണ്.
